Visiting position at rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor at Hamilton College

The French and Francophone Studies Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor to teach language and mid-level literature/culture courses beginning July 1, 2022. We seek candidates with superior fluency in French; demonstrated experience, and excellence in language teaching. Our program stresses oral and written proficiency as well as communication within cultural contexts. All areas of specialization will be considered; however, preference will be given to candidates specializing in pre-20th century studies; experience with visual media and language pedagogy highly desirable. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations.

Assistant Professor in French and Francophone Studies at Scripps College

Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the department of French and Francophone Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2023.



We are seeking candidates with primary research and teaching interests in French cultural studies or French intellectual history who work at the intersection of history, sociology, anthropology, or politics. A concentration on popular culture (in the French sense of culture populaire) or on material culture is desirable as is an interest in gender and sexuality studies or critical race theory.  While we will consider any historical era, preference will be given to the medieval and early modern periods.



The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher-scholar with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching all levels of French language as well as courses on French history from a global perspective. The teaching load at Scripps is four courses per academic year, and advising on senior theses is expected. Participation in the Scripps Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities is expected. Native or near-native fluency in French and English is required. Ph.D. required.

French Language Professor at Imperial College (tenure track)

Representative Duties



THE POSITION



Full time faculty, 177 days, tenure track as a community college French Professor. The teaching assignment will include regular assignment to french courses, traditional classroom environment, and/or online, primarily at the main campus in Imperial. The college also offers courses in dual enrollment at local high schools and at local correctional facilities.



Duties and Responsibilities

Teach courses in French.

Demonstrate versatility in instructional methodology and technology and the ability to serve diverse student populations

Plan, develop, and implement course curricula including curricula to be delivered via distance learning.

Update course materials and course outlines of record.

Develop, maintain, and assess student learning outcomes.

Maintain a current syllabus and provide current course orientation materials for each assigned course.

Keep current and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and scholastic progress.

Post and maintain scheduled office hours.

Attend and actively contribute to meetings or activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities or assignments including but not limited to department meetings, advisory committee meetings, and academic senate.

Participate in recruiting and articulation activities with local schools, other community colleges, and four-year colleges.

Use media aids, the library, and other resources as appropriate.

Maintain currency in subject matter and developments in the field.

Communicate with students and staff in a professional manner.

Be familiar with and observe the Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable IVC Board Policies and Administrative Procedures.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Job Description:

Budget Title: Postdoctoral Associate (SL-1)

Salary: $62,000

Fellows are appointed with the title of Postdoctoral Associate and will receive the annual salary, along with a New York State comprehensive benefits package. Each fellowship appointment is a non-renewable two-year contract. There will be a research allowance that may be used in support of scholarly expenses and conference travel to disseminate research findings. There will be a moving expenses allowance.

The fellows are expected to conduct original research, publish scholarly work, and/or engage in creative activities, as appropriate to the department wherein they will be appointed, and to teach or co-teach one or more courses per year as the instructor of record.

Fellows will receive formal mentoring, as well as constructive feedback throughout the appointment in an effort to improve their candidacy for a tenure track appointment.

Requirements:

Applicant must receive a doctoral degree in a relevant field prior to the appointment. The expected start date is September 1, 2022, but candidates may be considered for a January 1, 2023 appointment.

Lecturer of French (4 positions) at University British Columbia Vancouver campus

The Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), invites applications for 4 full-time Lecturers of French to commence July 1, 2022.

The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate language courses in French at all levels, and engage in innovative curriculum development. Other responsibilities may include: student advising, recruitment and placement, TA training and supervision, course coordination, and service on administrative committees as assigned by the Head. The full-time teaching load for a Lecturer in Arts is 24 credits per year (typically expressed as eight 3-credit courses across the 12-month period of appointment) and service assignments.

These are full-time positions for an initial term of three years, including a probationary first year. Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e. non-tenure track), renewable for successive terms, subject to availability of funds and demonstration of excellence in teaching and service, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.

Requirements: Ph.D. degree in French Studies, Second Language Acquisition, French as a Foreign Language or a relevant field. Candidates with an M.A. degree combined with significant teaching experience will also be considered. Candidates must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills in French, as well as an excellent command of English, and must be able to demonstrate established competence in foreign language pedagogy, technology-assisted instruction, and knowledge of current issues and methods in teaching French as a second language. A good understanding of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and how it relates to language courses in a Canadian Higher Education context is an asset (CEFR-informed teaching and assessment practices).

Teaching Assistant Professor & Coordinator of French Program - Department of World Languages, Literatures, & Linguistics at West Virginia University

Description 

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, & Linguistics at West Virginia University (https://worldlanguages.wvu.edu/) invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of French and Coordinator of the basic French language program beginning August 2022. This is a nine-month, full-time, position with full benefits. The position is also eligible for promotion. Teaching Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms of up to three years, with no limit on the number of terms. 

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics (WLLL) offers M.A. degree programs in Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), enrolling approximately 60 full-time graduate students from around the world, with the many of these holding teaching assistantships. WLLL also offers B.A.s in a range of programs, including Chinese Studies, French, German Studies, Russian Studies, and Spanish. Additionally, we offer minors in Arabic Studies, Foreign Literature/Culture in Translation, Italian Studies, Japanese Studies, Linguistics, and TESL. Our faculty is actively engaged in education abroad programs, and we have a long history of collaborating with other WVU colleges, departments, and programs.

WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area. Qualifications 

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by time of appointment in French; Francophone Studies; Second Language Studies/Acquisition with experience in French; Applied Linguistics with experience in French; Romance Languages with experience in French; Language Pedagogy with experience in French, or a closely related field, by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will 1) teach undergraduate French language and content classes with the potential to teach courses in other areas depending on background and departmental need; WLLL is particularly interested in candidates who can also teach applied courses; 2) coordinate lower-level French language classes, graduate teaching assistants, and other instructional staff; 3) demonstrate excellence in university-level teaching; 4) demonstrate abilities in program development and coordination; 5) possess excellent written and spoken communication skills in both French and English. The teaching load is four courses per semester with one course per academic year equivalency for coordinating the French Program.
